*Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review*I've been looking for new manga to add to my library's collection， and have heard this is THE up and coming new shonen series， and all of the rave reviews were right。 In this series， Kaiju are a major threat， appearing suddenly and causing mayhem and carnage until the defense force arrives and defeats them。 The battle continues after the defeat though， as the cleanup crew comes in to take care *Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review*I've been looking for new manga to add to my library's collection， and have heard this is THE up and coming new shonen series， and all of the rave reviews were right。 In this series， Kaiju are a major threat， appearing suddenly and causing mayhem and carnage until the defense force arrives and defeats them。 The battle continues after the defeat though， as the cleanup crew comes in to take care of the kaiju bodies left behind。 This is where we find main character Kafka， a man in his early thirites who tried and failed to get into the defense force。 Not long after new kid Ichikawa starts on the job， also with dreams of joining the defense force， a workplace accident leaves them both in the hospital， where Kafka comes to learn that he can transform into a kaiju。 The why is a mystery for now， with the rest of the volume focusing on Kafka and Ichikawa taking the defense force exam。 If you're thinking this sounds like Attack on Titan， you'd be right， there are some similarities here， but this series is very much its own unique creation。 What I loved most about this series is the amount of humor， Kafka and Ichikawa often act as a comedy duo， bringing some lightness to what could've been an overly dark story。 Humor is something I really like in shonen， it's one of the reasons I liked One Piece so much， so it's refreshing to see a new series balance action and humor。 I will say the say seemed a little messy， but it's a first volume and that could just be the digital arc version i'm reading。 Shonen fans won't want to miss this series。 。。。more

The balance between action and humor is so good。 Its refreshing and I love our protagonist Kafka Hibino， he is so determined and I root for him。 Leno Ichikawa is such a good partner and companion， I already like this guy a lot。 I also thinks the female characters in here are all so strong and dont even falter besides their male counterparts。 I mean Comander Mina and Kuriko is strong for a rookie recruit。 The concept of Monster Kaiju existed and the defense team jobs are to destroy them may not b The balance between action and humor is so good。 Its refreshing and I love our protagonist Kafka Hibino， he is so determined and I root for him。 Leno Ichikawa is such a good partner and companion， I already like this guy a lot。 I also thinks the female characters in here are all so strong and dont even falter besides their male counterparts。 I mean Comander Mina and Kuriko is strong for a rookie recruit。 The concept of Monster Kaiju existed and the defense team jobs are to destroy them may not be original， the great execution is the one that drives the story with amazing characters 。。。more

8/10 starsA 32-year-old pot-bellied， washed-out sweeper of monster remnants who at a prompting of a younger colleague decides to pursue his dreams and become a kaiju fighter - only to become a kaiju himself after a monstrous dragonfly barges into his mouth？ Count me in！ Careful， though: this one's addictive。In a way it seems nothing new: we've seen those monsters， and the fights， in plenty of other shonen。 But making a 32-year-old guy the protagonist works very well here: all the traditional tro 8/10 starsA 32-year-old pot-bellied， washed-out sweeper of monster remnants who at a prompting of a younger colleague decides to pursue his dreams and become a kaiju fighter - only to become a kaiju himself after a monstrous dragonfly barges into his mouth？ Count me in！ Careful， though: this one's addictive。In a way it seems nothing new: we've seen those monsters， and the fights， in plenty of other shonen。 But making a 32-year-old guy the protagonist works very well here: all the traditional tropes of shonen， such as mysterious endowment of superpowers （My Hero Academia， I'm looking at you！） to an otherwise unprepossessing person （yup， One-Punch Man， now I'm looking at you） and making them the pivotal element of a grand good-vs-evil conflict （there are too many such mangas to look at them all at the same time， I've got only one pair of eyes） are given a new treatment， with lots of tongue-in-cheek twists and general fun， accompanied by some cool body horror elements。 Certainly， various monstrous body parts are depicted with relish。The art's clear and precise， and while it could be more dynamic， it conveys the story well enough。 Looking forward to the next volume！ 。。。more

No esperaba nada de este manga pero ufff， pinta brutal！ Tiene comedia， pero también sus partes serias y de drama， los personajes tienen una personalidad fija desde el principio， aunque vas viendo cómo van cambiando de a poco。 Y el tema de los kaijuus me gusta mucho！ Me recuerda mucho a Pacific Rim。 Y bueno， es un manga adictivo que se lee rápido。
